redstuffdan is a 67 year old shy and retiring ex civil servant who lives quietly in the Aquitaine countryside with his beautiful French wife of 48 years.

My art, like my photography, borders on the naïve and was provoked as a complimentary activity to my recovery from illness. Much of the work is experimental and would best be described as an expression of a child let loose in the sweetshop of digital photography and acrylic paints.

My current obsessions are the Bordeaux vineyards, local village life, architecture, doors, mirrored images and digital photography as art with a healthy dash of golf, wine and local history in equal parts. I hope you get as much pleasure from my work as I do in producing it.

  1. Thanks for visiting and following Miscellaneous Eclectica. I’m irrationally excited when anyone from France connects with me in any way because we love France sooooo much. On our trip last year we were fortunate to be able to stay with in-laws of in-laws and Facebook friends in 4 places, I will follow you and be jealous of the beautiful places you photograph and blog about.

  2. Thank you for visiting my blog (A Trivial Mind at Work). I must say your photographic touch is outstanding. I love the pictures of doors. There is so much artwork out there if we just stopped and looked.

Keep it up. And, again, thanks for stopping by. Come back any time!

  3. I’ve perused your images and may I say they are spectacular. Not just the artful way you’ve either manipulated or captured them – the images themselves are visually thought-provoking and beautiful. All of them are so very appealing…

  4. Hi Again Dan
I started writing blogs and following blogs a few years ago (yours being one I followed). Due to a serious illness in my family I gave up all blogging and blog-following for about 18 months and have only just felt able to get back into my writing and artwork. Having received a recent comment from you (many thanks) on one of my posts, I came by to look at your blog again. You have some brilliant stuff! I love what you do with digital manipulation especially. One really can go wild with a camera and a good photo editor!

I didn’t realise that you are also in Aquitaine. Yes, it is a superb place for photography. We are in the Dordogne near Perigueux.
    Best wishes
    Jude :)

  5. Dear redstuffdan,
Thank you for offering some suggestions/ support re: WordPress 201. Immediately, the image header of a bright red poppy caught my attention. Your photographs are beautifully “framed”and I can see that you are a believer in a “pop” colour- red. I tend to lean toward “quiet” shades and colours- greys, blues, although I love a shot of something red!
    Sincerely,
    Grace

  6. Love your b&w pictures and the starkness of the layout – It means that when colour is introduced it becomes much more powerful an image. good Job;

  7. Hi Lana

Ithink l must have tried every free theme with 10 to 15 different headers. In the end l came back to Able theme because it uses the whole screen on desk and laptops – which is how my pictures should be viewed. The beautiful poppy was capture in a French vineyard last week – they are not usually here for another montn – and l love this flower and it’s unique shade of red with a passion beyond words. Voila!

    I really appreciate your comments.

    Regards

  8. Bonjour Penny

I too love most things French – mainly the beautiful woman who has put up with this increasingly grumpy Englishman for the past 43 years. There is a lot to love about this fabulous country and it’s people – but an awful lot that makes you want to pull one’s hair out. I’ve enjoyed visiting your blog and will be a regular follower.

    Salut

  14. Hello Dan. How nice to “meet” you! I find your work fascinating, really enjoy the patterns you´ve made from different objects around you, and I also like the variety of shapes and colors in your photos. Some close up, others far away. Being nuts about animals, I love the horse and the cat ^_^

    All the best!

    Keep it up!
