  1. Bonjour Trish,

    This is like a bad dream – Shortly after getting your reply, looking at a few posts and posting some others the computer froze. Rebooted and had to use the Double authentication again, where WP send you a code number to your phone by SMS. This authentication code gets you back into WordPress. However, for whatever reason l didn’t get an SMS, l have been trying, without success, all day long. Read a lot of forums etc, but without being able to login l have no access to ask questions on forums.
    Cut a long story sideways – l found the below dialogue which describes my situation perfectly, l do not have any of the 3 qualifying codes to recover my site so l too need someone at WP to reach out to my EMail address so that l can be reconnected. I have had to create a new email account and a new WP site ‘Angryredstuff’ to be able to send you this.

    Madame redstuff, Janine, suggested using your EMail to ask for your help in asking WordPress to help me. I am in desperate need of a happiness engineer of my own.

    I am sorry to ask for help but l have few choices and ask if you could kindly ask somebody on the forum to reach out to me via EMail, otherwise l am afraid redstuffdan will fade away.

    Help, I am completely locked out of my original account. I have my login and password but I got a new phone number (my old one was in Italy), so the authenticator numbers are not working. My backup codes got thrown away.

    Yes, but I cannot provide any of the three required proof of ownership points required.
    I can prove it simply by having them contact my gmail account associated with my account.

    Support Staff do not deal with account recovery; only Account Recovery Staff do that.

    What I post only applies to sites hosted by wordpress.COM. It does not apply to wordpress.ORG software installs.

    Every WordPress.COM blog has a sole owner. It is the person with the WordPress.COM username account who registered the blog under that username account and a single associated email address, and who is the original Admin of the blogs registered under that username account.

    You must be logged in under the exact same username that registered the site to be able to access the site and purchase or renew or cancel upgrades. The Admin login link to the dashboard for every blog hosted by wordpress.COM is:

    http://NAME_OF_BLOG.wordpress.com/wp-admin/

    *Replace NAME_OF_BLOG in that URL with the actual name of your blog.

    If you do not have the required access and someone else registered the site you need to contact the person who registered the account and site under it and have them transfer the sites and upgrades to your username account.

    If you check each and every possible email address and account and are not successful gaining access to the blog(s) then you must complete the form for account recovery at this link https://en.wordpress.com/wp-login.php?action=recovery and submit it to the Account Recovery Staff, and provide proof ownership, so they can contact you by email ie. not on these public support forums, which are available to everyone with internet access.

    Support Staff cannot breach the privacy policy and provide the log-in information. You have to provide proof ownership to Account Recovery Staff to gain access https://en.support.wordpress.com/account-recovery/

    I am fully aware of all of the above…The “form” post by “timethief” doesn’t help me a bit, as I am fully cognizant of the issues, account recovery form, etc.
    The problem is that I can prove I am the sole owner and originator of the [email redacted] website if WordPress.com recovery staff would simply send me an email on what steps I might take to prove it (besides the three that are currently required). My profile was updated in 2015 where I changed my email address from an att one to a gmail one.
    They can easily see that if they would only look and send me a note.
    Someone at WordPress….PLEASE HELP me recover my site!

    I got as far as filling in the recovery form until I hit a dead end without having any of the 3 required boxes checked.
    I appreciate any help that gets me in touch with real people on the Recovery staff.

    I was not saying you were not a real person “timethief” but some of the info was superfluous to my problem as I thought that I had clearly stated.
    I need to speak to a real person on the WordPress Account Recover Staff.
    I have pointed out that they can reach me at my gmail account (or the one that this is forum is linked to)
    I moved from Italy so that even though I am using the same phone it is not the same chip or phone number that i had in Italy so all the SMS messages that I requested have gone into the ether.
    Someone who can help…PLEASE HELP!

    Hi there,

    I’ve sent an email to the address associated with that account. If you don’t receive it, the account recovery form is the only other option.

  2. Oh dear. What a pain computers can be. They give us the world one moment, then bite us in the nether regions when we’re off guard. Windows 10 seems to be particularly slippery in some quarters and totally locked in in others.

    Thanks for your concern and kind advice – unfortunately the problem is still effecting some sites – l thought l had got rid of it by using the Norton Safe Search browser. I had tried most of the recommended fixes shown on Google and Microsoft forums and Windows 10 advice sites. Like your other half l have resolved many problems over the years by googling it, normally someone has had the same problem and share the fix. This time the smart money was on changing from my IE browser to Chrome. So installed Chrome and the browser defaults to either BING or Norton safe search – the damn computer will not let me change the default browser to Chrome in settings or the App shop.
    So still seeking a solution – What joy!!!

  4. Trust you conquered your computer plague, Dan. Those kinds of things are utterly infuriating. I have yet to learn it myself, but only when I’ve blown my top does my other half remind me to get googling. He learned this from the IT specialist at his erstwhile works who always began solving any problem with a google search.
